Yellowjacket Softball Drops One-Run Decision to
Central Washington (March 2,
2003)
BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings
softball team drew the host team Central Washington
in the quarterfinal round of bracket play at the
Central Washington Invitational Sunday. The
Yellowjackets (3-13) lost 3-2 for their fourth
one-run loss of the season. Eight of their 13
losses thus far have been by one or two runs. MSUB
finished the CWU tournament with a 2-4 record
The Yellowjackets trailed 3-1
entering the seventh and drew to within one when Terilee Ehnes drove in Tahnea Murphy to make the score 3-2. Murphy was
a pinch runner for Sara Hanley, who reached on a walk. Murphy
advanced to second on a fielder’s choice and scored
on Ehnes’s double. The Yellowjackets were unable to
bring Ehnes in for the tying run.
MSUB’s first run was scored by Joey Ehnes in the top of the first. She was
driven in by a Theresa Campbell double. Campbell was 2-for-4
in the game with a double and an RBI. Joey Ehnes
went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Terilee also went
2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Megan McCrae pitched six innings in the loss.
She gave up five hits, struck out two and walked
one. Two of the Wildcats’ three runs were earned.
The Jackets’ next game is March
20 when they host Minot State for their home opener
at Cenex Stadium. The five-team Yellowjacket
Invitational will be held March 21 and 22, featuring
the Yellowjackets, Minot State, Jamestown, Valley
City State and Dawson CC. |
