Yellowjacket Softball Team Splits Double-Header at
Dawson (April 17, 2003)
GLENDIVE, MT – The MSU Billings
softball team faced Dawson Community College in a
split squad exhibition on Thursday afternoon,
dropping game one of the double-header 3-1 and
winning game two 6-5. The games do not count toward
the Yellowjackets overall season record, which
stands at 10-15.
Dawson jumped ahead 2-0 in the
bottom of the first in game one and never trailed.
Jordan Waverek pitched a complete game for the
Yellowjackets, allowing seven hits and three runs
over seven innings. Stephanie Lemon drove in
Terilee Ehnes in the top of the fourth to draw MSUB
to within 2-1, but the Buccaneers scored an
insurance run in the bottom half of the fourth and
held on for the 3-1 win. Ehnes, Lemon, and Tara
McIlravey were each 1-for-3 in the game.
The Yellowjackets scored in
each of the first three innings of game two to take
a 4-0 lead after two and a half innings. DCC plated
three runs in the bottom of the third and one each
in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-4 lead.
The Jackets rallied for two runs in the top of the
sixth and held the Bucs scoreless for the final two
innings for the win. Stephanie Cochrun pitched all
seven innings for the win, giving up eight hits.
Offensively in game two, the
Yellowjackets’ Tahnea Murphy was 2-for-4 with a pair
of RBI and a run scored. Murhpy also tripled in the
game. Ann Thompson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and
Terilee Ehnes was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and
an RBI.
The Lady Jackets will play two
more exhibition games on Friday when they host
Easter Washington University’s club team. Game
times are scheduled for 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. at Cenex
Stadium. MSUB’s next regular season games will be
April 25 and 26 when the Jackets host second place
Hawaii-Hilo in Pacific West Conference action.
Double-headers are slated for both days beginning at
3:00 p.m. at Cenex Stadium. |
