Yellowjacket Softball to Play PacWest Home Opener

BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings
softball team will play its Pacific West Conference
home opener this weekend when the Yellowjackets host
Chaminade University on Saturday and Sunday.
Double-headers are scheduled for both days with the
first game starting at 2:00 p.m. at Cenex Stadium.
It will be the first time that Chaminade has ever
played in Billings.
MSU Billings has used a
five-game winning streak to improve to 8-13
overall. The Yellowjackets are 1-7 in PacWest play
after their early season swing to Hawaii. Chaminade
is 7-26 overall and 2-14 in the PacWest after
dropping four games at ninth-ranked Western New
Mexico earlier in the week.
Stephanie Cochrun is batting
.462 in 11 games for the Yellowjackets, good for the
highest current average in the PacWest. Joey Ehnes,
Theresa Campbell, and Cami Rainey are also hitting
above .300 for the season. Ehnes is hitting at a
.348 clip from the leadoff slot, while Campbell has
a .319 average and Rainey is batting .300. Sara
Hanley leads the team with 12 RBI with Terilee Ehnes
and Michelle Falsken close behind with 11 apiece.
Ehnes and Megan McCrae anchor
the Yellowjacket pitching staff. Ehnes is 3-3 in
seven appearances with a 2.33 ERA. She has struck
out 30 and walked only 19 in 39 innings of work.
McCrae is 5-7 with a 2.61 ERA and has struck out 56
in 72.1 innings. She is third in the PacWest for
total strikeouts and second for opposing batting
average at .210
Chaminade is led by pitchers
Donnell Wittekind and Loihi McKeague, both of whom
have made 17 appearances this season. McKeague has
a 3.48 ERA and Wittekind has a 3.54 ERA. Alicia
Quindt leads the Silversword offense with a .262
batting average in 24 games. Pua Reis is tied for
second in the PacWest with five home runs and has
driven in 16 of the Swords’ 49 runs.
Note: On Sunday, the
Yellowjackets will be holding a home run contest at
Cenex Stadium. The entry fee is $10 with the winner
splitting half the pot with the softball team. The
contest is limited to the first ten males and ten
females to sign up. Call
