Six Yellowjacket Softball Players Earn All-Conference Recognition (May 7, 2003)

BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings softball team placed six players on the Pacific West Conference All-Conference teams announced Wednesday.  In voting by the league’s coaches, five Yellowjackets were named to the all-conference second team and another earned honorable mention honors.  MSU Billings, which also had four players named to the academic all-conference team, is in just its third year of collegiate softball and finished with a 15-20 overall mark.

Named to the All-PacWest second team were Theresa Campbell (sophomore designated hitter, Great Falls, MT), Stephanie Cochrun (sophomore infielder, Lake Stevens, WA), Terilee Ehnes (junior infielder, Great Falls, MT), Layne Pavey (sophomore catcher, Spokane, WA), and Joey Ehnes (sophomore infielder, Great Falls, MT).  Megan McCrae (sophomore pitcher, Brandon, Manitoba) earned All-PacWest honorable mention honors.

Campbell earned the ninth-highest point total in the overall voting and the second-highest total among designated hitters.  She led the Yellowjackets with a .341 batting average, which was the sixth-highest average in the conference.  She also posted the PacWest’s eighth-best on-base percentage at .412, and had a slugging percentage of .459 with a team-high seven doubles.  Pavey was the No. 2 ranked catcher after batting .280 with a team-best .493 slugging percentage and four home runs.  She ranked seventh in the conference for slugging percentage and ninth for home runs.

Cochrun batted .339, eighth-best in the conference and second-best on the team.   She also had a .973 fielding percentage while playing most of the season at first base.  Terilee Ehnes hit .319 for the season and drove in a team-high 21 runs.  Her sister Joey batted .277 with an on-base percentage of .347.  Joey also made 14 appearances as a pitcher, posting a 7-5 record with a 2.79 ERA.  McCrae was the Jackets’ top pitcher, posting an 8-12 record with a 3.02 ERA in 19 starts. 

Pavey, Cochrun, Campbell and Meghan O’Donnell (senior infielder, Billings, MT) were also named to the Academic All-Conference team.  Pavey topped the academic list with a 4.00 GPA in pre-law.  Cochrun has a 3.66 in education, Campbell has a 3.47 in business management, and O’Donnell has a 3.47 in education.  Campbell was also named to the Verizon Academic All-District VII third team as a designated hitter on Wednesday.  The Verizon all-district teams are part of the Verizon Academic All-America program as selected by members of CoSIDA.
