Yellowjacket Tennis Teams Split with Mary (March 22, 2003)

BILLINGS, MT – On the second consecutive day of tennis duals between MSU Billings and the University of Mary, the Yellowjacket women breezed to a 9-0 victory while the men’s team fell 5-4.  Both Yellowjacket teams defeated the Marauders on Friday evening.

The Lady Yellowjackets didn’t lose a single set on Saturday as they cruised to a 9-0 win.  The closest matches were at #1 singles and #1 doubles.  MSUB’s Becky Fry dispatched Marie Woltanski 6-4, 6-1 for the #1 singles victory, while Rachel Hertz and Amanda Schlosser captured the #1 doubles match 8-4.

The Yellowjacket men’s team dropped the #1 and #2 singles matches as well as two of three doubles matches to drop a close 5-4 decision.  MSUB’s Sergio Diaz lost a three set match at #2 singles and the Yellowjackets fell 9-7 at #3 doubles in two matches that decided the dual. 

Both MSU Billings tennis teams will next face Hawaii-Hilo on April 8 in Billings.  The Yellowjackets will take on Chaminade and BYU-Hawaii on April 9 and host the PacWest Tennis Championships on April 10-12.
