Yellowjackets Roll to Men’s Soccer Win at Colorado Christian (October 20, 2002)
LAKEWOOD, CO – The MSU Billings Yellowjackets
used three first-half goals Sunday to cruise to a 3-1 men’s soccer
victory over Colorado Christian University. A stifling
Yellowjacket defense limited the Cougars to just two first-half
shots, and three different Jackets found the net in the opening
stanza as MSUB won its sixth game of the season.
Mike Gallegos opened the
scoring in the 19th minute with his sixth goal of the
season to give MSU Billings a 1-0 lead. Thomas Pertuit picked up
his fourth assist of the season as he crossed the ball in front of
the net for Gallegos’s header.
Just ten minutes later, Mark Cipolla netted his
team-leading 11th goal as he beat the Cougar goalkeeper
one-on-one for the eventual game-winning goal. Gallegos picked up
the assist and his 15th point of the year. Cipolla
leads the Yellowjackets with 24 points.
In the 45th minute, Kyle Bales’s third goal of
the season gave the Yellowjackets a 3-0 cushion after Hugh Kinnear found him on
a breakaway. It was Kinnear’s third assists of the season.
Yacine Zerizef recorded
one save in the opening half and held CCU scoreless. Senior Kevin Petritz was in goal
for the Yellowjackets in the second period as the Cougars got off
18 shots. Petritz gave up one goal in the 53rd minute,
but recorded two saves to preserve the win. MSUB improved to 6-10
on the season.
The Yellowjackets will host Flathead CC on
Saturday afternoon at Yellowjacket Field at the COT. Game time is
set for 1:30 p.m. MSUB will close out the season on November 3
when the Jackets travel to Bismarck to face the University of
Mary. |
