MSU Billings
Golf Team to Tee-Up for First Event this Weekend (September 12, 2002)
BILLINGS – The Montana State
University-Billings men’s and women’s golf teams
will see their first competition this weekend when
that travel to Aberdeen, South Dakota for two
events. The events will mark the first-ever for the
new golf programs.
The Yellowjackets will compete
in the Wolf Classic at Moccasin Creek Country Club
on Sunday, September 15; and at the Saints Open at
Lee Park Golf Course on Monday, September 16. Both
events will be attended by MSU Billings, Northern
State University, South Dakota State School of
Mines, Jamestown College, and Presentation College.
The first year program is
guided by head coach Dave Doherty, the golf
professional at Pryor Creek Golf Club. Doherty will
be traveling five men’s players and three women’s
players to this weekend’s event, and plans to have
about least eight men and five women on the team for
the spring season.
Competing this weekend for the
Yellowjacket men’s team will be junior Kevin Davis
from Santa Ana, California; Eric Staab from Powell,
Wyoming; Brian Barthelmess from Seely Lake, Montana;
Matt Desin from Billings; and Chris Haas from
Bozeman.
The Lady Jackets will take
three players to South Dakota this weekend: Nicole
Clayton and Krystal Broesden, both from Wolf Point,
Montana; and Elizabeth Marshall from Worland,
Wyoming.
Doherty hopes to enter one or
two other events during the fall season, including a
possible match at the Yellowjackets’ home course of
Pryor Creek. They will then compete in a fairly
full spring schedule, which is the traditional
championship season for NCAA competition. |
