University Connections student wins competition

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Tanner Jorden, a 14-year-old Montana State University Billings University Connections student is proving his mastery on the piano.

Jorden won the Montana Association of Symphony Orchestras (MASO) Competition in Bozeman last weekend.

 

Jorden has studied with Professor Dorothea Cromley in the Music Department for two years.

 

In addition to a cash reward of $450, he has the privilege of performing with the symphonies across Montana. He will have an opportunity to perform with the Billings Symphony, Bozeman Symphony, Great Falls Symphony, Helena Symphony and the Glacier Symphony.

 

His first performance is this February 25th with the Great Falls Symphony.

 

He will be performing the Grieg Piano Concerto in A Minor.

 

Tanner intends to pursue a concert career in piano performance. 

 

Every two years Montana music students compete for opportunities to play with Montana’s Symphony Orchestras and win cash prizes. This year was the 14th Biennial MASO Young Artist Competition, which was open to musicians ages 13 to 22 to perform a work for solo instrument with orchestral accompaniment.
