MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Montana State University Billings faculty, staff and students this week are putting the finishing touches on the 2009-10 academic year. The week culminates with convocations and academic awards ceremonies on Friday, April 30 and commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 1.

 

Five colleges at MSU Billings will host individual convocations on Friday, recognizing students for academic achievement and service within their major fields of study. Undergraduates who will be graduating with honors during the MSU Billings Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 1will receive their honor cords during their college’s convocation ceremony. Top graduate students in three colleges will also be recognized.

 

Commencement ceremonies will be Saturday, May 1, at 10 a.m. at MetraPark with undergraduate and graduate diplomas given to 891 students. Commencement speaker this year is Ed Parisian, an MSU Billings alumnus and Rocky Mountain Regional Director for Senior Executive Services for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

 

All events are free and open to the public.

 

Convocation for the MSU Billings College of Technology will be on Friday, April 30 at 8 a.m. in the College of Technology’s Health Sciences Building, with a welcome by Dean John Cech and special remarks by Dr. Waded Cruzado, president of MSU. The College of Technology will confer 225 degrees during the Commencement ceremony on Saturday.

 

Convocation for the MSU Billings College of Allied Health Professions will be on Friday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m., in Cisel Recital Hall, with a welcome by Dr. Diane Duin, interim dean of the College of Allied Health Professions. The College of Allied Health Professions will confer 121 degrees during the Commencement ceremony on Saturday, including 43 master’s degrees.

 

Convocation for the MSU Billings College of Business will be on Friday, April 30, at noon in Cisel Recital Hall, with a welcome by Dr. Gary Young, dean of the College of Business. The College of Business will confer 120 degrees during the Commencement ceremony on Saturday.

 

Convocation for the MSU Billings College of Arts and Sciences will be on Friday, April 30, at 2 p.m., in Petro Theatre, with a welcome by Dr. Tasneem Khaleel, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The College of Arts and Sciences will confer 268 degrees during the Commencement ceremony on Saturday, including 21 master’s degrees.

 

Convocation for the MSU Billings College of Education will be on Friday, April 30, at 4:30 p.m., in Petro Theatre, with a welcome by Dr. Mary Susan Fishbaugh, interim dean of the College of Education. The College of Education will confer 157 degrees during the Commencement ceremony on Saturday, including 74 master’s degrees.
