Scott Bennett in McMullen HallDo you have a joke of the day?

“Oh, I have a joke everyday. What is the warmest place in a room?...The corner, they’re usually 90 degrees.”

Why did you start the joke of the day?

“I started sharing a joke of a day at a previous job because I wanted to break up the monotony. People were kind of in a humdrum mood, so I looked to brighten the spirits of people. There has to be some element everybody looks forward to in a day, something that they will enjoy or else the day tends to drag, so what I do is add an element of fun. With my joke of the day, they have something to look forward to when they come in. I have had people who have been absent for a while, on vacation or sick, and come up to me and ask what all the jokes of the day were.”

What is your favorite aspect of your job here?

“I would have to say the people that I work with. They are all really nice, seriously. They all really care about each other and it shows, and if something goes wrong they pull together and try to fix it.”

What do you like to do in your spare time?

“I don’t have a lot of spare time, but when I do I’m very active in my church. I go visit families that are in need. I have a son (21) and a daughter (18). I donate plasma once or twice a week. I occasionally get to go on a date with my wife, too. We try to keep our marriage strong. We’ve been married now for 23 years.”

What is your favorite joke of the day?

“What does the green grape say to the purple grape? Breathe!”
