Artist Statement

My creative works are personal, internal observations and investigations of the travels and experiences I have had as an artist living and working in the West. My work is an attempt to discuss personal travel, both in a literal and ethereal spiritual sense, and how this travel or we as people are measured. These observations are often represented with a kind of funk landscape, sometimes with architectural elements (buildings, billboards, movie screens, ect.), in which I have tried to communicate in what I hope is a profound, humorous, and sometimes ironic way. Often the subject centers on art about art, social issues, western funk icons, maps, and travel.

This particular book was made in collaboration with artist/printmaker Larry Anderson, proprietor of Flying Circus Press then located in Vermillion, South Dakota. Larry now teaches at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. The intention of the book was to humorously obscure the division between fact and fiction, establishing a guide for traveling in the West.
