Lego Robotics Jr.  For students entering grades 2-3

 

June 4-8 — 8:30 to 11:30

 

Instructor: Mark Kane

Fee $180

 

Focused on building an interest in science and engineering, this hands-on camp will capture young children's inherent curiosity and direct it toward discovering the possibility of improving the world around them. A real-world challenge will be featured, and students will be encouraged to solve it with critical thinking and imagination.

 

Students should bring a water bottle and snack each day.

Stop-Motion Animation Jr.  For students entering grades 2-3

 

June 18-22 — 9:00 to noon

 

Instructor: Paige Williams

Fee $155

 

Love The LEGO Movie and want to create your own? Then this is the summer camp for you! Using iPads and LEGO pieces and figurines, we'll learn some of the tricks of stop motion animation and create our own movie!

 

Want to stay for the afternoon's Intro to Coding camp that begins at 1 pm?  Be sure to register for both camps and bring a lunch each day.  MSUB staff will ensure your child is escorted to the camp and stay with them until camp begins.

 

Students should bring a water bottle and snack each day.

Computer Coding Jr.  For students entering grades 2-3

 

June 18-22 — 1:00 to 3:00

 

Instructor: Paige Williams

Fee $155

 

This camp is geared toward younger students who are interested in coding.  Using super fun programs, make your favorite characters move, dance, talk, and so much more.  What you learn in this camp can be used at home to continue coding, using a free program.

 

Be sure to bring a water bottle and snack each day to this camp.

Grades 4-8

(for students entering grades 4-8)

Experience the fun of working with technology and science through the use of LEGO EV3 robotics!  Students will be introduced to LEGO Mindstorms, building and programming.  Using their robots, students will complete different challenges.  There are two different dates and times for this very popular camp.  Some information and challenges will be different in each of the two LEGO 1 camps offered this summer (LEGO 1, Session 1 is June 11-15 and LEGO 1, Session 2 is June 25-29).  Bring your lunch, a water bottle, and snacks to this day-long camp.

Computer Coding  For students entering grades 4-8

Beginning Raspberry Pi Computer Camp  For students entering grades 6-8

This camp meets at City College, in Computer Classroom B055

 

Two Sessions:

June 12 &13 — 9:00 to 3:00

June 14 & 15 — 9:00 to 3:00

Fee $230

 

What if you could build and program your own computer?  In this camp, you will learn how to do exactly that.

 

With your new Raspberry Pi computer, you will be able to do all sorts of cool things such as store photos from your camera or phone, play games, and surf the Internet.

 

During this 2-day camp, you will build your own Raspberry Pi.  You will learn how to operate it and to program it using SCRATCH.  You will use your new computer to create music, write your own code using Python, and perform operating system maintenance.

 

You will get to take home your Raspberry Pi unit and connect it to your home monitor, keyboard and mouse.  You will need to bring your own headphones, lunch, a water bottle, and snack for each day of the camp.

Intermediate Raspberry Pi Computer Camp  For students entering grades 6-8

This camp is for students entering grades 6-8 who have already taken Beginning Raspberry Pi.

 

This camp meets at City College in Computer Classroom B055

 

June 18, 19, 20 —9:00 to 3:00

Fee $195

 

Love your Raspberry Pi and want to it to new heights?  In this camp, which continues where the beginning class left off, we will explore the many fun things that this amazing little brain can do.  We will do more programming, both traditional and using SCRATCH.  We will also learn how to use Raspberry Pi as a controller for electronic and robotic devices that we build.

 

For this 3-day camp, you will need to bring the Raspberry Pi computer that you built in the beginning class, as well as a lunch, snack, and water bottle each day.

Grades 9+

Raspberry Pi 9+ Computer Camp  For students entering grade 9 and above

 

This camp meets at City College, in Computer Classroom B055

 

June 25-29 — 8:30 to 2:30

 

Instructor: Bruce Brumley

Fee $350

 

This camp is for students entering grades 9 and up who have taken the first two Raspberry Pi camps. This grand finale of our Raspberry Pi camps completes the series.  It is for you veteran Raspberry Pi users who want to unlock the full potential of the computer that you built.  You will be configuring your Pi as well as using code and sensors.  This camp would be a perfect opportunity for a parent or grandparent to jump in and team up with their budding programmer.

 

For this one-week camp, you will need to bring the Raspberry Pi computer that you built in the beginning class, as well as a lunch, snack, and water bottle each day.
