On July 1, 1994, the Montana Board of Regents of Higher Education restructured the state's colleges and universities into two umbrella universities, Montana State University and the University of Montana. MSU is the home campus for Montana State University, with the following affiliates:

MSU-Billings has been accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (NWCCU). Eligible programs within the University are accredited by the following agencies:

MSU Billings is a member of the NCAA II Great Northwest Conference.

  • Men compete in baseball, basketball, track & field, cross country, golf, and soccer.
  • Women compete in basketball, volleyball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

The school colors are blue and gold, and teams are called "The Yellowjackets."
